Your Support Makes the Dream Award Possible
By Matt Konrad
The Scholarship America Dream Award is open for applications starting today, through March 28—and, as we celebrate the tenth year of this groundbreaking scholarship program, we are excited to announce a major expansion of the Dream Award vision.
Started in 2013 with a founding donation from author and newscaster Katie Couric, the Dream Award has helped more than 120 scholars pursue their college dreams despite financial obstacles. Until now, award eligibility has been limited to students already in college—but, for the first time ever, we are opening applications to high school seniors who are facing financial need!
The Dream Award focuses on three major innovations:
- Increasing Access to Increase Impact: Eligibility guidelines are clear, concise and wide-ranging, ensuring a wide variety of students can apply.
- Financial Support that Follows the Student: The Dream Award is not a one-time award—recipients can earn up to $10,000 each year for up to four years.
- Support Beyond the Scholarship: Scholarship America provides Dream Award Scholars with both virtual and in-person opportunities to connect with each other and with supporters and business leaders.
By expanding the reach of the Dream Award to incoming freshmen, we can provide hope for even more students whose big dreams run up against difficult financial realities. Your donation supports students like Patrick, who didn’t let a traumatic upbringing prevent him from become the first in his family to attend college. Today, he’s on his way to a master’s degree and a career as an educator.
Here’s what he had to say about the impact of this scholarship on his life.
As we expand the Dream Award, we need your support to continue eliminating barriers for students like Patrick.
Your individual or corporate support of Scholarship America’s Dream Award means the world to a student who has drive, talent and a passion to change the world—but who lacks the financial resources to keep working toward their degree. Thank you for helping bring this impactful program into its second decade of success!
